History
Founded in 1908 as a social club for the faculty, members in the University Club on West College Avenue remained exclusively male through World War II. In spite of economic challenges and changing customs, the club continued as an important part of Penn State's social picture.
In the late 1940's, Grace Henderson became the first woman to be admitted, as a social member only. She was the Dean of Home Economics and very active in the club for years but still, no women lived in the house.
Today the University Club has 39 residents, men and women from all over the world. It is a mini United Nations and a distinct advantage in sharing languages and cultures. Lynn Sidehamer-Brown who is the president of the University Club and a former resident recalls her days at The Club with fond memories.
